Starting the year right…

Hey all! It’s been a while, I hope everyone had a good holiday season celebrating or not celebrating! 🙂

I thought I would quickly share with you what I am doing & have been doing for few days now, to prepare me for 2019!!! In this post I will help you figure out what goals you should set/aim for 2019 (if you are stuck), how you can achieve those goals & how to stay motivated all year round! 🙂

& Of course you can use these tips anytime throughout the year, you can start your goals anytime, doesn’t have to be the 1st, On a Monday or a new year!!

I am a goal oriented person, I live by to-do lists, weekly, monthly & yearly goals! & I love it & I think everyone should do too! I am also very aware that most of the time, most things do NOT go as planned & some goals have to be changed on the way, however, I believe it is very important to at least have some idea of what you want to achieve in life, or at least today! Doing this makes you grow, productive, efficient & overall happier person as you see your progress with time & check your goals as time passes 🙂

I am going to break down this into two parts,

Part 1. Figure out what goals to set?

Part 2. How to achieve your goals & my tips to stay motivated all year round!?

Step 1. Achievements

Firstly I want you to pat yourself on the back for everything you have achieved this past year. List it all down & I don’t care how small it is.

We often get fixated on what we didn’t achieve & how we will the following year but we never look at our accomplishments & the lessons we learnt so far. So I want you to start by doing this first – write down all your achievements for the past year.

Examples:

  • I graduated
  • I started School
  • I started a new job
  • I started my own business
  • I lost weight
  • I become vegan or became healthier whatever healthy is for you!
  • I healed my acne or other illnesses you may have
  • I completed my work training without fail
  • I woke up every single morning & got myself to work/school

It doesn’t have to be anything major, the fact that you are reading this right now is enough to show that you are always working on bettering yourself 🙂

Step 2. Reflect

Now ask yourself what did you learn this past year?

What are some of the things you have learnt about yourself?

About life?

Anything valuable lessons you have learnt this year?

I want you to write it all down… 🙂

Now to the fun stuff & figuring out your goals for 2019 …

Step 3. Evaluate

I want you to list down all areas of your life you want to work on & I want you to score them out of 10.  How fulfilled are you with your health? The higher the score the better, the lower the score the less happy you are with that area in your life. I also want you to write a sentence or two about it – perhaps why you are or aren’t so happy with this area.

For example my categories are the followings:

  • spirituality
  • self love
  • health
  • career
  • finances
  • relationships
  • family
  • personal development

Next I want you to add all the score & create a percentage/total score for all of them.

This is really important as you will be able to compare your progress in a year or even few months – I think every 3 months is a good time to monitor your progress 🙂

Step 4. Mini Goals

Now I want you to go back & ask yourself what can I do to improve this area of my life for every single area you have listed.

For example:

  • spirituality: develop a morning practice
  • health: workout at least 3 times a week
  • career: pursue further education
  • finances: take savings seriously
  • relationships: Make time to socialize & bond with my close friends
  • family: check on my family & stay in regular contact

This is very brief but you can literally list down the goals below each area.

Step 5. Release

Now after doing the 1st two steps you will be able to identify things that you might have been doing that kept you stuck or hindered your progress. I want you to list all the things you want to release & leave behind in 2018, where it belongs!

For example:

  • LET GO OF FEAR – CONTROL – ADDICTIONS
  • Wasting time Binge watching Netflix!
  • Obsessing & need of control
  • Hating my body
  • Not moving my body

Step 6. Sum everything up!

Now I want you to summarize everything you have written down, listing all the major goals you want to achieve this year.

Maybe you want to achieve some of them earlier – if this is the case & you have dates in mind I want you to write the month/date next to the goal.

In fact, I would encourage you to write down specific dates to when you want to achieve your goals – if you give you give yourself the whole of 2019 to achieve your goals you are more likely to procrastinate & less likely to take actions right away, so set smaller goals you aim to achieve every month or few months. I THINK THIS IS KEY!!!

Now this big list of goals along with the mini goals you have set for each area, will have to be saved & stored somewhere you can see daily. I want you to read this list every single day & as much as you can, every morning.
